REMEDIATION SYSTEMS

USA has installed a number of groundwater extraction and treatment systems for public entities such as the Port of Houston Authority, major oil companies, airports, landfills, and private engineering firms. These systems have removed a wide variety of organic and inorganic contaminants from groundwater and typically employ one or more of the following treatment strategies:

   Phase Separation
   Vacuum Extraction
   Filtration
   Air Stripping
Chemical Oxidation (UV, Peroxide and/or Ozone)
   Biological Oxidation (Aerobic and/or Anaerobic)
   Neutralization
   Precipitation
   Carbon Absorption

Our field personnel are trained in all aspects of remediation system construction which includes: permitting, site preparation, concrete pads and containment systems, trenching, piping, electrical, instrumentation, fencing and startup. In addition to the installation of recovery and treatments systems, USA can provide Operation and Maintenance services to ensure an effective, economic remediation program.

The majority of the systems installed are Dual-Phased Extraction (DPE) which involves removal of contaminated groundwater, phase separated hydrocarbon (PSH), and hydrocarbon vapor from the subsurface. By using a vacuum system, a pressure gradient is induced in the subsurface which causes the soil gas to migrate through the soil pores toward the recovery well. The migrating air induces volatilization and allows for transport of phase separated hydrocarbons. In addition, the flow of air provides oxygen to the impacted zones which promotes biodegradation. The vacuum enhances the water table depression which, in turn, enhances the initial groundwater recovery rate and produces a more effective groundwater capture zone.
